Badenweiler Castle is mention for the first time in a document.  Duke Konrad of Zähringen signs a deed of donation on 26 December 1122 in "castro badin" with St. Peter Monastery in the Black Forest as its beneficiary

Clementine of Zähringen marries the Welf Henry the Lion and contributes sovereignty over Badenweiler Castle as her dowry

1157/58

 

The Staufer King Frederik I Barbarossa succeeds in putting pressure on the Welf sovereign Henry the Lion and in forcing the latter to exchange the rule over Badenweiler against possessions in the Harz Mountains

1162

 

The marriage between Clementine of Zähringen and Henry the Lion is officially dissolved due to being "too closely related"

Following the death of Frederik I Barbarossa, Badenweiler is returned to the control of the Zähringen dynasty as a fief

When the Zähringer dynasty dies out, the inheritance is transferred to the Counts of Freiburg
