Burg Hohenzollern Verwaltung
72379 Burg Hohenzollern
(Gemarkung Bisingen)
Hohenzollern Castle is in the Schwäbische Alb region, just outside of the town of Hechingen, roughly midway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance. Motorists can take either the A81 motorway between Stuttgart and Singen (and leave it at the junction marked “Empfingen”) or the B27 trunk road (leaving it at the junction marked “Burg Hohenzollern”). There are regular train services to Hechingen station. It is possible to get from there to Hohenzollern Castle by bus (6 km), but there is only one service each way each day (two on summer Sundays), leaving the station in the late morning and returning from the castle car park mid-afternoon. Certain railway tickets are valid on this bus too.
The castle car park is somewhat lower down the hill than the castle itself, and it takes around 15-20 minutes to walk from there up a steep path and steps to the “Eagle’s Gate” entrance. The narrow road is longer but less steep, and a shuttle bus runs up and down it between the car park and the castle entrance during the busy season, from 16 March to 31 October.
We recommend visitors with reduced mobility to use the shuttle bus as far as the entrance to the castle (at the “Eagle’s Gate” or “Adlertor”). From there, the ramp up into the castle climbs over a distance of another 400 metres or so. For precise information about the shuttle-bus service, please phone (0 74 71) 9 35 00 or send a fax to (0 74 71) 93 50 93.
