Churches in Dilsberg

View from the castle to the Catholic church, water tower on the left

Today's Catholic church originated from the medieval castle chapel of St. Oswald (around 1378).  Traces of St. Oswald can still be discovered today in the chancel area, where a fresco of Saint Margarethe from the late Middle Ages was uncovered.  The interior is generally rendered in the late Baroque style (remodeling took place from 1733-55).  The two side altars and the high altar (purchased in 1871) originally produced for the Church of the Holy Spirit (Heiliggeistkirche) in Heidelberg are especially worth seeing.  The altar is flanked by two sculptures of St. Laurentius and St. Sebastian from the school of the Mannheim court sculptor Paul Egell (1691-1752).

Protestant church in Dilsberg

The Protestant church was built in the neo-Gothic style in 1870-73.  As a result, the reformed congregation of Dilsberg, which had not had its own church building since 1707, once again had a suitable location for church services.
