Heiligkreuztal Monastery

Interior of the former Convent Church

The former Cistercian convent of Heiligkreuztal located near Riedlingen in a side valley of the Danube is one of Swabia’s lesser known jewels.  It is considered to be the best preserved convent complexes of the at one time six Cistercian monasteries in the Swabian region.

The high Gothic former Convent Church (Klosterkirche) holds treasures like the choir window with its colorful glass paintings created around 1312, the group with the figures of Christ and John from the early 14th century or magnificent altars from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.  Rarities of sacral art and testimonies to faith of pious women can be found in the museum in the Church of Brothers (Bruderkirche).
