Castle ruins of Alt-Eberstein

Not far from the Hohenbaden castle ruins and connected to it with a hiking trail lie the castle ruins of Alt-Eberstein. In the former residence of the Counts of Eberstein and later of the Margraves of Baden, day trippers find a romantic spot in the castle café with its feudal decoration. The tower platform offers a magnificent view of Baden-Baden.

Yburg

There is a third castle in the Vernhalt district of Baden-Baden, the "Yburg". It was erected directly on a mountain peak. In the summer its sandstone-colored walls shine brightly between the dark fir trees of the Black Forest, while in winter the peak is often shrouded in mysterious, thick patches of fog that swallow up the castle. The castle is a topic of conversation due to one of its owners. Following the loss of his Margraviate, Margrave Eduard Fortunat attempted to multiply his wealth at Yburg Castle by producing counterfeit coins and by operating an alchemist's workshop in the cellar vaulting.

Rastatt Palace, "Ehrenhof"

Two palaces can be visited in the neighboring town of Rastatt. Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden-Baden and his wife, Margravine Sibylla Augusta, erected their residential palace here modeled on the French Versailles. Italian artisans decorated the rooms with splendid ceiling paintings and ornate stuccowork. Margravine Sibylla Augusta also commissioned the building of the pleasure and hunting palace Favorite in the Förch district of Rastatt.  Today it still offers a wealth of precious appointments in its interior. However, the landscape garden with the lake, orangery and hermitage is also well worth a stroll.
