Kapfenburg Palace

Schloss Kapfenburg

Kapfenburg palace is located on a rounded mountain top above the town of Lauchheim. The site was already inhabited in the early Stone Age. The medieval Kapfenburg was purchased in 1364 by the Teutonic Order (Deutscher Orden) and expanded to a representative sovereign seat in the centuries that followed. Despite the costly building activity in the Renaissance and the Baroque, Kapfenburg Palace is above all a testimonial to the religious-knightly royal seat of the late Middle Ages and the early modern age.

The International Music School Academy and Cultural Center (Internationale Musikschulakademie Kulturzentrum) in Kapfenburg Palace has had its headquarters within the walls of the former Teutonic Order citadel since 1999.  As a result, Kapfenburg Palace has become a popular meeting place and a center for musical and creative work for many people from Germany and abroad.

The palace rooms can be viewed during guided tours.
