High above the Enz river lies Neuenbürg Palace. The
former castle was originally a well-fortified structure. In
the late Middle Ages and in the Renaissance it was then expanded
to a palace, partially on the old foundation walls. The Thirty
Years' War and numerous building phases continuously changed
the building over the centuries. Although it was intended as
a duke's residence, no one from the Württemberg dynasty
ever lived in Neuenbürg palace for an extended period.
Since 2001 a museum has been located at Neuenbürg Palace, which is run as a branch museum of the Baden State Museum (Badisches Landesmuseum) in Karlsruhe and is operated by the town of Neuenbürg.
This museum integrates the walkable theater "Das kalte Herz" (The Cold Heart), the exhibition on the history of the palace and the region and regular special exhibitions. A large number of cultural events throughout the year make every visit an unforgettable experience.
