Fire Department Museum

Fire engine from the 18th century.

In memory of the great fire catastrophe in 1697, Max Margrave of Baden founded a Fire Department Museum (Feuerwehrmuseum) in 1976.  Its collection from the monastery age was continually added to with new acquisitions and items on loan.  The museum shows a large number of historical fire trucks, fire engines and equipment covering the period from the early 18th century to the equipment of modern fire departments.  With many models and diagrams also intended for our younger visitors, the exhibition provides an insight into the exciting history of fire fighting in Germany from the Baroque age until today.
