Majestic and mighty, the dark sandstone facade rises above the palace square. With only sparse decorative elements, like the artistic tracery windows, the abbey church was built with reserved architectural forms quite in keeping with the rules of the Cistercian Order. However, when the church is entered, the entire splendor and magnificence in the time shortly before Secularization becomes apparent. The alabaster adornments in the Early Classicistic style, which differs from Rococo style contemporary at that time, are marvelous. Other highlights include the late Gothic tabernacle, the late Baroque choir stalls, the monument to the abbots and founder, and a statue of Bernhard of Clairvaux with the "Salemer Honigschlecker" (Honey Licker of Salem). The impressive backdrop from the organ of the famous Baroque master organ builder Charles Riepp has been preserved.
