Sepulchral Chapel of Grand Duke in Karlsruhe

Sepulchral Chapel in Karlsruhe

The Neo-Gothic Mausoleum at the edge of the Fasanengarten (Pheasant Garden) in Karlsruhe is one of the most idyllic monuments to the history of Baden.  The last Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Baden were laid to rest here.  Originally, the mausoleum was erected by order of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden and his wife, Grand Duchess Luise of Prussia.  Her son, who died in 1888, was to be able to rest in peace in the "seclusion of the peaceful forest“.
