Wilhelma

Wilhelma out of bird´s eye view - Lithography by Kellerhoven in 1855

Between Rosenstein Park and the Neckar river King Wilhlem I had a complex with a bath house, greenhouses, a theater and gardens built in the Moorish style between 1839 and 1864. Here he gave himself over to the illusion of a sensuous oriental world in the seclusion of his "Alhambra on the Neckar". The buildings were reconstructed after the destruction of World War II and are today the historic center of the same titeled zoological-botanical gardens.
