Palaces in Stuttgart

Beginning in the early 14th century the counts, dukes and kings of Württemberg had their residences, pleasure palaces and tombs erected in and around Stuttgart. Founded on the beginnings of a Swabian water-surrounded castle from the 10th century, the Old Palace (Altes Schloss) and the New Palace (Neues Schloss) were built in the valley basin. Solitude Palace, with its connection to the Ludwigsburg residential palace, Hohenheim Palace as a country seat and Rosenstein Palace and the Wilhelma above the Neckar river and the Sepulchral Chapel (Grabkapelle) on Württemberg mountain, the site of the first castle of the Württemberg family, were all built in the greater surrounding area.
