Learning and marrying at palaces

Pauline, the Queen of Württemberg (1800 – 1873), painted by Georg Friedrich Erhardt

She certainly looks elegant - Pauline, the Queen of Württemberg (1800 – 1873), painted by Georg Friedrich Erhardt.  A section of the painting that hangs in Ludwigsburg Palace adorns the cover of the new issue of "Schlösser".  It refers to a major topic of the magazine: Marriage yesterday and today.

Pauline, who was married to her cousin Wilhelm I, was one of the four daughters of Henriette, Duchess of Württemberg, who came from Kirchheim.  Our article covers matches befitting to one's social position and the importance of the dowry in the 19th century.  - Once the nobility would have found the idea of opening the state's magnificent palaces to commoners completely absurd.  But today the State Palaces and Gardens really do enable couples ready to get married to say their vows in surroundings rich in history, and then to celebrate in a stylish atmosphere.  That's an offer that make's women's hearts leap.  And a link to the list of rooms for rent on this homepage is also provided.

Work oriented to the needs of specific target groups is important to the palace administration.  An excellent example of this is the project entitled "Lehrreich" (Instructive).  School classes experience history "up close and personal" in Baden-Württemberg.  The newly designed museum educational program is coordinated with school educational plans.  Teaching at original locations makes instruction exciting.  Not only two hour special guided tours, but also project days are possible.  Apart from the additional motivation that can inspire teachers and students, it is possible that the today's young visitors could become tomorrow's regular customers.

Obtain information on Europe's last preserved garden mosque from the 18th century in the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens by phone

Dial "C" for culture!  Interested people can receive information on the Mosque in the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens over the phone if desired with the "Phoneguide".  In just a few minutes friends of the arts can obtain an overview of the architecture and the idea behind Europe's only preserved 18th century garden mosque.  It was never intended for prayer.  Let's stay in the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens for a while.  Current replantings of trees offer an occasion to look at the importance of spruce and larch trees in historical gardens.  Mythology also played an important role here.

Tapestries from Bruchsal Palace were cleaned in Mechelen, Belgium. A detail from a border is shown here.

Work to restore the Beletage (principle floor) at Bruchsal Palace is currently underway.  Impressive tapestries were once a major feature of the room appointments.  Some of these have now been freed of centuries of dirt at the carpet cleaning operation of the Royal Tapestry Manufactory in Mechelen, Belgium.  We visited the textile restorer at the Badisches Generaldepot (Baden General Depot) in Karlsruhe, who evaluated the brightly colored pieces.  It will be some time before the tapestries are prepared for hanging at their original location.  By the way, the next special offer of Schlösser Magazine for readers will deal with the Karlsruhe Depot.

The "courtly society" has gathered in the Fashion Museum (Modemuseum)

In 19 issues of Schlösser we have presented exhibits from the Fashion Museum (Modemuseum) at Ludwigsburg Palace.  Curiosities like "hair bags"“, uncomfortable things like corsets and crinolines, complicated items gentlemen's clothing from the Rococo age or accessories.  The last article in the series is devoted to the glove - a useful and highly symbolic piece of clothing.

"Pair of Lovers Making Music", according to a model by Johann Friedrich Lück

In the section "Vitrine" (Showcase), we present the small sculpture entitled "Pair of Lovers Making Music" from Mannheim Palace, produced in the Frankenthal Manufactory.  This time the trip tip takes readers to, among other places, the Baroque Gallery of Ludwigsburg Palace and examines the paintings of the painter Johann Heinrich Schönfeld.  And the series "Adel verpflichtet" (Noblesse Oblige) deals with the rank of king, its history and importance.

In addition to a wealth of other interesting topics, the magazine also contains tips on events with information on special guided tours.
